1. The Things We Leave Unfinished by Rebecca Yarros

"The Things We Leave Unfinished" is a beautiful blend of past and present, filled with timeless love and modern challenges. It’s the perfect romantic novel for Valentine’s Day and easily one of my favorite reads of 2024 for its emotional depth and unforgettable story.

I read this amazing romance novel in February 2024 and I still find myself thinking about this book at least a few times per week! It’s one of those books that will sit with you long after you read it!

This was a popular TikTok book which really can be hit-or-miss. Most of us have probably had a bad experience reading a TikTok-recommended book. HOWEVER, this was absolutely not the case with “The Things We Leave Unfinished.” It is a stunning romance that you will not soon forget.

This book is currently FREE on Audible and Kindle Unlimited (as of November 2024). This could change of course so check it out while you can!

3. The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren

“The Paradise Problem” by Christina Lauren is a hilarious slow burn romance. Christina Lauren are known for their beautiful romance novels. You’ve likely seen booktubers rave over “Love and Other Words” as well as others by the dynamic writing duo. “The Paradise Problem” is incredibly relatable (despite their unique situation) and had me laughing out loud throughout the entire book.

Our main character, Anna, is an absolute riot and will have you busting out laughing throughout the book. Made a May 2024 pick by Book of the Month, it is already one of their most-loved books of 2024 by Book of the Month readers.

“The Paradise Problem” is one of my personal favorite books of 2024. I would recommend it not only as a Valentine’s Day novel but to anyone wanting a good laugh and a relatable story!

4. Ready or Not by Cara Bastone

Speaking of laugh-out-loud romance books, “Ready or Not” by Cara Bastone was another rom-com favorite of 2024. This book was a February 2024 Book of the Month pick and is a perfected light-hearted romance book for Valentine’s Day.

This book has some classic romance tropes including accidental pregnancy, best friends’s brother, and a “golden retriever” male main character.

Cara Bastone does an incredible job making our main character, Eve, relatable and comical which adds a lightheartedness to some of the more serious subjects touched on in this romance novel.

5. The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

Pivoting from the rom-com category, “The Song of Achilles” by Madeline Miller is a beautiful and powerful romance novel. Miller weaves a poignant tale that reimagines ancient mythology, making it both accessible and emotionally resonant with the reader.

"The Song of Achilles" transcends a mere love story confined to a brief moment; it beautifully illustrates how love evolves and endures throughout a lifetime. This book surpasses your average romance book in every way, exploring deep love and connection. "The Song of Achilles" beautifully portrays the themes of love and loss as two young individuals navigate significant challenges to remain united.

If you’re looking for a romance book to read that pulls a bit more at your heartstring, “The Song of Achilles” will not disappoint.

6. All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood

The winner of the 2016 Book of the Year award from Book of the Month, "All the Ugly and Wonderful Things" tells the unconventional and poignant story of a young girl named Wavy, who forms a deep and complex bond with a man named Kellen. This romance novel explores themes of love, survival, and the gray areas of morality, delving into how relationships can be both beautiful and messy.

This is not your average romantic novel with your typical romance book tropes. The nontraditional romance portrayed by Bryn Greenwood in this book is striking and nothing short than stunning. This will be a book that you think about often and makes you think about love in new ways.

This book is currently free on Kindle Unlimited and Audible! (as of November 2024). It may not be free forever, so I would recommend reading it while it is is you prefer audiobooks or ebooks!

7. Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez

Last but certainly not least is “Yours Truly” by Abby Jimenez. While technically book number two in the “Part of Your World” series, “Yours Truly” can absolutely stand on its own. With Jimenez's signature blend of humor and emotional depth, this novel explores themes of love, healing, and the importance of connection in both personal and professional lives.

Abby Jimenez is often regarded by booktubers and other bookish influencers as the “romance queen.” This novel is a testament to that. All three books in this series, “Part of Your World,” “Yours Truly,” and the most recent “Just for the Summer” were Book of the Month picks with “Yours Truly” winning the coveted 2023 Book of the Year Lolly trophy.

There is a reason her books are so widely loved, and it is because of her phenomenal ability to write characters that you absolutely fall in love with. “Yours Truly” can be read on it’s own, but to read the series in order you should read “Part of Your World” first, “Yours Truly” second, and finish with “Just for the Summer.” There is some character crossover throughout the novels but each story can stand alone if you choose not to read the series in order.

“Love and Other Words" by Christina Lauren is a poignant romance that intertwines the past and present of two childhood sweethearts, Macy and Elliot. Through a heartfelt blend of nostalgia and new beginnings, the novel explores themes of love, loss, and the power of second chances. With vibrant characters and emotional depth, Lauren crafts a touching narrative about the complexities of relationships and the enduring nature of true love.

This is widely loved by many book lovers, with many regarding it as Christina Lauren’s best work. Plenty of people I know (and bookish influencers I don’t know) will rank this in their top romance novels of all time. It’s a beautiful story and definitely worth the read!
